“While his conviction doesn’t change the fact a lot of people have lost hard earned money it hopefully provides a sense of justice following what has been a very long and detailed investigation.

According to organisers of Leeds Festival Republic, there has been a prominent drop down in ticket touting compared to previous years due to a "multi-agency tout response vehicle"

The event handler and organizers claimed, that a significant disruption to the activities of ticket touts, has been reported with the mutual efforts of West Yorkshire Police and other agencies

Melvin Benn,Festival republic boss said that he is not satisfied with the approach of from the various agencies.

Each year, touts line the roads approaching Leeds Festival to sell to ticket-less festival-goers who will pay above the retail price to attend.

"I was keen to try and take action against touts offsite because they have disrupted our traffic plan and exploited our festival goers for years,” he Benn, “I was delighted that agencies were able to join together in such a united and organised manner and that we could finally disrupt the touts' activities.

“We hope very much to repeat the response vehicle in 2011 and are very grateful to all the agencies involved for their co-operation."

In spite of the infamy of ticket touting, it is not actually an illegal practice, so the agencies had to use other ways to tackle the problem.

Speaking for West Yorkshire Police, Inspector Marcus Griffiths said, "With the huge influx of traffic in the run-up to the festival, touts operating from the roadside were causing real and potential traffic hazards. I think the proof of the pudding was in the eating - the number of touts operating on the second and third days of our operation tailed off to nothing, thus keeping our roads clear of potential hazards."

If Axl Rose didn't think it could get any worse than last weekend's sets at Reading and Leeds festival, and the subsequent war of words, Wednesday's concert in Dublin must have seemed like a nightmare.Guns N' Roses were just four songs into their gig at the O2 when boos and bottling forced Rose to confront the crowd. "If you don't want to have fun, all you've got to do is let us know," the singer told them. The crowd let him know. And Rose left the stage.

Guns N' Roses began their set almost an hour late – a record even in this week of embarrassing tardiness. "The sound of booing echoed through the arena," recalled a fan, "but it was suddenly drowned out as the lights went down." Yet many of the band's critics were persistent. "We want Slash!" they yelled, referring to the band's former guitarist. The boos went on. And plastic bottles were thrown at the stage.

Twenty minutes into the set, Rose gave an ultimatum. "Here's the deal," he said. "One more bottle and we go home. It's up to you. We would like to stay. We want to stay. We want to have some fun." But some fans weren't impressed. The bottling continued. Rose walked off.

After that, the house lights went up and down, with promoters and security sending mixed messages about whether the concert would continue. "We're trying hard to get Axl to come back on stage," an organiser announced. "I will ask you to refrain from throwing items. I promise you a great show, but you need to be calm." The gig's promoters later issued a statement, saying they "prevented [Axl] from leaving the venue". At 11:20 pm – about an hour after they had left the stage – Guns N' Roses returned and completed their set.

The concert was apparently pretty good. Or at least, everyone but Axl was pretty good. "Guns rocked Dublin last night, but we could've done without the Rose," explained a fan. But this was of little consolation to those who had already left the O2, thinking the concert over; public transport had stopped for the night and ticket-holders were reportedly barred from re-entering the arena.

Last weekend, Rose declared "war" on festival bosses. If he's not careful, Guns N' Roses' fans may soon be launching a coup against the band's frontman.

Police said to the drivers could use the A1 to junction 44 and travel towards Leeds using both lanes on a system one way. As a report, the A64 road will be closed to all traffic travelling eastbound from the Fox and Grapes on Friday. Police said the other irregular road restrictions were in place and around the city.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Advised that drivers are strongly to use alternative routes wherever conceivable and allow to extra time to plenty for their journeys."

A WIDOW has paid tribute to her "soulmate" who died after he was run over by a lorry walking home from the Leeds Festival.
Andrew Kennedy, 27, photographed right with his wife, a senior recruiter at Covance in Harrogate, had been at the festival with childhood sweetheart Kimberley before they were split up on the evening of August 28 last year.They both then independently made the decision to walk home from the huge event at Bramham Park near Wetherby to their home in York – but Andrew then stumbled into the path of a passing lorry while walking along a path which was partially blocked by undergrowth.Shocked Kimberley came across the aftermath of the accident on the A659 near Tadcaster and her husband was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary, where he died with his wife by his side. A coroner has now described the case as "one of the most tragic I've come across."Kimberley told an inquest at Selby Magistrates Court: "We had been together since we were 15 and we were inseparable. He was not just my husband, he was my soulmate."We did everything together, we went to university together, part of me is missing. Me and my family were always going to love him. He was just a really nice person, he was very genuine and extremely intelligent. He would do anything for anybody, particularly for myself and his family."The inquest heard how the pair became separated at around 8.30pm and decided to make the same long walk home, a distance of around 15 miles, but Andrew set off first.Traffic Constable Stuart Langford, who investigated the accident, said the stretch of footpath where Andrew was hit was overgrown. Because of this it was possible he stumbled in to the side of the lorry as it passed, suffering fatal head injuries.Toxicology tests showed the music fan had been drinking at the festival but there was no suggestion it had played a part in his death.Recording a verdict of accidental death, Coroner Rob Turnbull told Andrew's grieving family: "I can see no evidence that this vehicle was being driven anything other than a normal manner and there is no evidence that the vehicle struck Mr Kennedy rather than the other way round."We will probably never know why Mr Kennedy stumbled or came into contact with that vehicle, but I note the concerns about the maintenance of the footpath which may have resulted in Mr Kennedy leaving the footpath and walking on the carriageway or having to walk on rough ground."The stretch of overgrown path where the accident happened has since been cleared by North Yorkshire County Council.A spokesman for the council said: "The footpath that runs along the A659 to the west of Tadcaster is a little used footpath which consequently had become overgrown with vegetation with the passage of time."Since the fatal accident at the site the footpath has since been cleared of vegetation."

"The crooks are getting better," Benn said, before explaining that the same touts are trying to rip fans off firstly via bogus ticketing websites (which knowingly sell fake tickets), and then for a second time outside the festival gates when the same fans have been refused entry.
Reg Walker of festival security firm The Iridium Consultancy called the touts "particularly nasty" and explained more about how they rip fans off.
"This is extremely clever, organised crime. It isn't just a few Arthur Daley spivs outside a venue," Walker said. "They produce counterfeit wristbands and have touts outside the venues knowing that they’re going to get several hundred people [who unwittingly bought fake tickets online] turning up who won't get in, but who are going to be looking for a way to get in. So then they have a second bite of the cherry."
Benn added that he hopes to get every major UK festival to introduce electronic scanning systems for "barcoded" wristbands by 2013 to help wipe out the problem, while Chief Superintendent Andy Battle, who is Leeds Festival's Police Commander, said the force will be "proactively looking for touts" at this year's festival.

La Roux triumphed at the Leeds Festival tonight (August 29), pulling in a massive crowd despite going up against headliners Radiohead.

The set saw fans spilling out of the Festival Republic tent as Elly Jackson and her band performed songs from their debut self-titled album.
Speaking to NME.COM following her performance, the singer, dressed in a sparkly red and black jacket with a gold medallion, said she had no apprehension about competing with Thom Yorke and co.

"The thing is, Radiohead are a different band to mine so they're likely to attract a different crowd," she argued. "It's not like, La Roux and The Chemical Brothers are on at the same time, because that would leave fans thinking, 'I like electronic music but I don't know which one to go to'. It's such a different style of music it doesn't matter, that's why they plan this festival like that.

"Still it was lovely to have so many people turn up and we always have good crowds up north."
While they were animated throughout, singles 'In For The Kill' and chart-topper 'Bulletproof' saw the audience sing along with nearly every word.

The Mercury-nominated band also performed forthcoming single 'As If By Magic', which saw Jackson joke with her fans: "Pretend you know the words."
During 'Bulletproof', the singer also had a bash at drumming. "That's the first time I've ever drummed onstage," she said afterwards. "We only rehearsed it yesterday and I was pretty nervous about it, but I didn't fuck it up so I was happy."

The only thing missing from the winter wonderland inside Anthony's Banquet Hall at the 14th Annual Festival of the Trees was the snow. And if the temperature outside had been 20 or so degrees cooler, the outer landscape would have matched the inner one. But much to the relief, no doubt, of adults and parents, the weather didn't cooperate, bringing a steady light drizzle instead of the fluffy white stuff. While Christmas was on full display inside the banquet hall kids of all ages will just have to wait a few more months for the actual thing.
But the Fortnightly Club, the 77 year old woman's organization which has held the festival since 1995, hit another homerun this year with 26 gorgeously decorated trees and dozens of designer level wreaths.This year's “People's Choice Award Winner” was “Christmas Is,” sponsored by the Fortnightly Club and decorated by Patti Lasher and Marion Coyne. Other awards handed out included those for most traditional, most elegant, best use of natural materials, most creative and most whimsical.One of the festival's signature crowd favorites is the two day silent auction for wreaths and trees, which will end today. Committee members update a giant white mark up board guarded by a Frosty the Snowman cutout as the bids come in. Minimum starting bids for trees is $75 and it's $25 for wreaths. The Fortnightly Club Committee will announce the grand winners at the end of the festival along with 24 raffle contests for everything from golf packages and ski lift tickets to dinner certificates, wine, oil changes and haircuts.Shoppers had a opportunity to pick up some early stocking stuffers from over 15 local vendors including Miranda's Gifts, Silver Find jewelry and Candyman Chocolates.Entertainment went on nonstop with Classical Cats, Hearts Content Trio, Rock Planet All Stars and others.Music and entertainment will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today along with another appearance by Santa, more silent auction bidding, mouthwatering goodies from the Festival Café and shopping with the festival vendors. Nine months they formed just ago but White Comic could already be playing Leeds Festival by the summer.
The four teenagers from Leeds and Wakefield are taking part in the Martin House Centre Stage competition.They have already been crowned top of the class at St Winifrid's Roman Catholic School, Featherstone, and will now take on the winners of other secondary schools in the area.The idea is to help raise cash for the hospice, and launch the career of the best musical talents in West Yorkshire.The top prize is the chance to play in front of thousands of people at both the Leeds and Reading Festivals – a slot donated by the event's arranger Festival Republic.Bands will also get a chance to bag other prizes such as time in a recording studio.But before that can happen schools must sign up.White Comic bass player Ben McGowan, 17, said: "People have been saying that we could be playing at Leeds Festival in a few years' time, but now we could be there in less than 12 months."When some of the bands were playing in the school hall, people were leaving, but as soon as we came on the place filled up and they were dancing and singing along. There is something difficult going on at a Leeds farm after dozens of straw invaders took over.
Dozens of scarecrows have lined the pathways and trees at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm as part of the Scary Scarecrow Festival. Straw pirates were ready to set sail across the water on their own raft and a bunch of speedy scarecrow cyclists were ready to get on their bikes. Even the trees were not safe from the straw invaders when a cloaked scarecrow wearing a "Scream" style mask managed to climb up high in the branches. Local groups, schools, colleges and organisations all pitched in to create their own scarecrow for the farm's first festival.Visitors to the farm will be able to take a tour of the trail this week and then pick their favourite entry as part of a competition.Farm director Sue Reddington said that the idea to stage the Scary Scarecrow Festival came from the farm's horticultural trainer James Lee.She said: "I think that the idea was just for a bit of fun and to try and brighten up autumn."Some of the younger children that have been to see the scarecrows have been a little bit frightened by them but I think that everyone seems to like them and are finding it fun."The farm hope that if the festival is popular and pulls in the crowds then they will be able to hold it again next year.Sue Reddington added: "If the event is popular then we may hold it again next year but we will probably start making the scarecrows a bit earlier."We have had to keep popping out to the charity shops to buy some more second hand clothes for them."She said that her favourites included a scarecrow with stripy legs and the pirate invasion.Local schools that have been involved include: Middleton and Park Spring Primary Schools, Munroe Playgroup, Carr Manor, Primrose, Lawnswood and Brooksbank HIgh Schools as well as Kirklees College.There will be a ballot box in the EpiCentre and votes will be counted on Saturday at 2pm.The winners will receive free membership to the farm and prizes will be awarded for the best scary scarecrow in each category.

Hot Rats dogged by sound problems at Leeds

The Hot Rats suffered sound problems as they made their Leeds Festival debut on the Festival Republic Stage.
The band – featuring Supergrass‘ singer and drummer Danny Goffey – played tracks from their forthcoming covers album, which is produced by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.
The pair performed a similar set to their warm-up gig at London’s Old Blue Last venue earlier this week, but they were dogged by technical problems.
Right from the kick-off, Coombes constantly found himself telling the stage crew to turn the sound up as they launched into The Velvet Underground’s ‘I Can’t Stand It’.
At one point Goffey also complained, “I think I got the wind in my ear”. It was only towards the end of the set when the pair performed their cover of Sex Pistols’ ‘E.M.I.’ that the sound improved, prompting Goffey to jibe: “That’s better, fucking hell, I can hear what I’m doing.”
But as they attempted to roll into the next track, the stage crew told the band that their time was up, causing Goffey to have a further dig as he complained: “I’d only just got the sound going. Never mind.”
Earlier, the band rattled through various covers of songs by The Doors, David Bowie and Gang Of Four, as well as a drum-heavy take of The Beastie Boys classic ‘(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)’.
As the pair launched into the track, Coombes, who mistakenly thought he was about to play ‘Crystal Ship’, told the crowd: “This a song by The Doors,” before Goffey interjected, “No it’s not,” prompting the singer to admit his error, adding: “OK, this is a song by somebody else.”
The duo were on jovial form, despite being dogged by technical hitches, with Coombes joking before Roxy Music’s ‘Love Is The Drug’: “Ray Davies was going to do this one with us but what can you do?”

It was typical northern hospitality all round this afternoon for Dizzee Rascal's on stage entourage with cries of "Who are ya?" greeting them at every over-confident turn.

Nothing warms the cockles of a Leeds crowd's heart more than a cock-sure nobody being taken down a peg or two and to a crowd loyal to the Rascal there was no excusing anyone trying to hog the lime light. Glaringly out of place on a sun kissed Saturday afternoon however, we can't help feeling nostalgic for the days he played in the dark and dirty NME Tent.

A few ligger snippets to satisfy your gossip longings now though. Alex Turner and Alexa Chung are mooching about backstage looking like a pair of haunted cuckoo clocks, along with 2005's finest The Queens of Noize.

Later I found myself the subject of ridicule for recognizing Ben Esser from the other side of a crowded field. What can we say? Hoxton pop floats our boat. We suspect child labour is being being used in the backstage bar to collect paper cups, possibly Tiny Masters of Today or maybe just normal children. Meanwhile, Frank Turner slips around unnoticed.

Arctic Monkeys warm up for Reading And Leeds Festivals in Brixton

Arctic Monkeys warmed up for the Reading And Leeds Festival by playing the O2 Academy Brixton in London tonight (August 26).

Getting ready for the weekend's (August 28-30) headlining slots, the band played their first gig since the Monday (August 24) release of third album 'Humbug' with supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, woh played their first ever UK gig, supporting the Sheffield four-piece.

Kicking off with ’Humbug’ opener 'My Propeller', the band followed it with their Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds cover and recent B-side 'Red Right Hand'.

Pausing before playing current single 'Crying Lightning', frontman Alex Turner introduced the band by saying, "Hello, we're Arctic Monkeys," before jokingly adding, "Have we got time for one more?"

The band - joined by their recently-recruited live keyboard player and extra guitarist John Ashton (their former soundman) - then barely paused between songs as they performed a set that drew from all three of their albums with the likes of previous singles 'Brianstorm' and 2005 UK chart-topping single 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'.

For new album track 'Potion Approaching', Turner ditched his guitar, trying his hand as an out-and-out frontman.

"Did you enjoy Them Crooked Vultures?" he then asked the crowd ahead of the next song, 'Pretty Visitors'. "I certainly did. We were fortunate to make a record with two of those chaps, and I can tell you they're a great pair of bastards. I'd like to dedicate this song to them."

Following 'Humbug' track 'Dangerous Animals', the band went right back to their beginnings, launching into 'The View From The Afternoon', the opener from 2006 debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

After a tender version of 'Cornerstone' Turner explained, "I'd like to take it down, take it down even further", before introducing 'Favourite Worst Nightmare''s 'Only Ones Who Know' and live favourite 'Do Me A Favour'.

"Have you had a good night, everybody?" the singer asked the crowd ahead of set-closer 'Fluorescent Adolescent'. "Well I hope it continues to be one!"

Returning for an encore, the band performed 'Secret Door' before finishing the night with '505'. "Thank you," declared Turner as his group wrapped things up. "Some of you I'm sure we'll see at the weekend."

ORGANISERS of Leeds Festival are keen for fans to use public transport to get to Bramham Park.
But for those planning to drive to the festival, new routes have been put in place this year to minimize disruption to local residents and on the roads.

The routes to the festival will be well signed and are on Festival Republic's website.

year, none of the old festival routes are being used. All traffic will now be directed on to the A1(M), exit at Junction 45 (Boston Spa) and use the local access roads West Woods Road and Paradise Way to travel to the festival site.

An additional route will be available on Thursday - the busiest period for festival traffic. Festival traffic will use the A1(M) to Junction 44 (A64 junction) and then travel westbound towards Leeds using both lanes on a one-way system and turn right into the festival car parks, opposite the Dogs Trust.

To manage this additional route the A64 is being closed to all through traffic travelling eastbound from the Fox and Grapes from midnight on Thursday August 27 until 5am on Friday.

Through traffic travelling from York to Leeds on the A64 will continue as normal but drivers should be aware that queues are possible with festival traffic between the A1 (M) (J44) roundabout and the Fox and Grapes.

Roads and junctions likely to be much busier than normal, as a result of festival traffic, from Wednesday until Friday afternoon are:

• A1(M) northbound and southbound at Junction 45 (Boston Spa)
• Grange Moor roundabout
• Wattle Syke roundabout
• West Woods Road
• Tenter Hill
• Paradise Way

The Leeds Festivals is an annual music festivals that go on in Leeds in the United Kingdom and are managed by Festival Republic (itself owned by Live Nation and MCD). The events take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. Between 1998 and 2007 the festivals was known officially as the "Carling Weekend", until parting ways with their sponsor Carling in November 2007.
